White Ribbon

In assembly this morning we had a group of year 11 students come in and present a message for us that they are against family violence. White ribbon is a way to show that we are against family violence it's a sign that we want the men and boys to stop abusing the women and girls. I would wear the white ribbon because i'm against family violence and I want
abusing towards women to stop!

What I value ?

I value is my learning in all subjects because as a year 10 student I would want to be a successful student who gets high marks in every subject. And i’d like to be a role model to the younger ones.I also value my learning because when I do leave college I would want to get accepted into a university so that my career could go far.

Political Party

Today my political party group presented to the class and our slogan was 'Never give up' and 'We can beat this'. Our party was called Cancer Party. Our party was basically about us helping out families with the people that was diagnosed with cancer. We would also help families if they could not afford the cure for this illness.
I felt like we presented well we were confident when talking in front of the class but next time I think we could make more eye contact with the audience and be more prepared with what we say and the way we stand when were in presenting.

Ministerial Role In Cabinet - Minister of Health

If I was the minister of health in New Zealand I would spend more money on people who is diagnosed with cancer and many other sickness that could cause death or pain towards the them. Because when I see on social media and television I would see young kids dying because there is no cure for cancer or the hospital can't help out when it comes to people getting diagnosed with cancer. It hurts when I see these young ones dying because cancer and too know how much pain their families would be going through hurts me too, so if I was too be the Minister of health in New Zealand I would do those things to keep the families happy and also the person who's diagnosed with the sickness.

Freedom Writers

In Freedom Writers I learnt that colour and culture don't need to stop us from being friends with other people who are different to us, they may not be the same as us but were all the same we learn the same we might know the same things and we may have a lot in common. So don't let your culture and colour stop you from becoming close friends with others.

Tolerance

Tolerance -
willingness to
recognize and
respect the
beliefs or
practices of
others.

An example of when the students showed tolerance of each
other was when...
They were eager to learn when Ms Gruwell taught them. When the student drew a picture of another student, mocking his lips - Ms Gruwell spoke to them about how one drawing could lead into something bad towards each other. Another example is when the student told the class he was being evicted and he told them about how much struggle he went through. He also told them that he felt like he was at home when he was in his class.

I think tolerance of other race is important because …
We need to respect other people's cultures and we need to get along with everyone such as different coloured people to us and different cultured people.

What I learnt about Cybersmart

Cyber-smart

What it means to be cyber-smart and why it is important?
Cyber-smart means always doing the correct things on the internet and not giving
negative comments towards others. Why is it important ? , well cyber-smart is important
because it affects people’s life such as suicide and self harming themselves.

Two things you learnt about being cyber-smart and how you could apply it to
your own life ?
1. I’ve learnt to take screenshots of the hurtful things that the bully has said to me
or someone else and show it to an elderly so that they can sort it out instead of
me trying to sort things out myself. It has applied to my life because once I’ve
been bullied online and I did take screenshots of it and as I showed my
teacher what happened she made a meeting between all senior classes and
started talking about bullies and how much it can affect someone’s life. When
the meeting finished she kept me behind and told that girl to come too and
she talked to her about how much it hurt me.
2. I’ve learnt to not post anything that can hurt someone else feelings or
inappropriate because even if you delete it, it’s actually not deleted
because others could have screenshot it and sent it to someone else.
This has applied to my life because when I posted something on my
social media account it hurt their feelings heaps and I didn’t think
twice before I posted this but someone did screenshot what I said about
that person and she came to me and was telling me that it hurt her
heaps she was in tears which made me feel guilty.
So think twice before you post something because it will also affect you and your feelings.

A personal strategy a young person can do to help themselves if they are
being cyber-bullied ?
If your getting bullied and you don’t know how to solve it and you find it hard to tell your parents you could always go to one of your closet friends and tell them about what has happened between you and that person.
You can screenshot it and send it to an elderly and tell them how it makes you feel so that they can sort it out.
Block them on all you accounts and also unfriend them so that they have no contact with you.
Tell your school social worker about it so that they can tell you how to fix the problem.
Make sure that you don’t do anything bad to yourself, if you think life sucks for you carry on and think positive about yourself and be you who cares about what others got to say towards you.

A interpersonal strategy a young person can do to help their friend who is
being cyber-bullied ?
If your friend is getting cyber-bullied then you need to get someone old enough to
sort the problem out. Make sure that you get help straight away because things
may get out of hand and there should always be someone free to come talk
to you. If you think that your scared to tell your parents or their parents you could
go to your social worker to help you out because anyone could help as long
as their old enough to understand and old enough to talk to that person.

A personal strategy a young person who finds themselves bullying
other young people can do to help build their self-esteem and
change their behaviour?
A way you can change your behaviour is by putting a stop to it because it
can affect that person’s life heaps because you may not know what happens at home.
They may be struggling in life and they may look like the lonely one with no friends
and also think of this saying.
“ The person you pushed today, already has bruises on them and get abused at home.
The person you called fat has been trying to lose weight for 2 years now.
The person you called lonely is going through depression.
The person you said has no friends has been struggling to make friends since
she started school.  The person you made bullied today, you may never see them again.

Think twice before act you may never know how much it affects them.

Tips to give to the year 6's about how they could become cyber-smart ?
Make sure you always say nice things on the internet
Use positive comments towards the people your texting
If you ever see someone getting bullied get help straight away
If you see post that you think will hurt someone don’t repost it
Watch your language on the internet

Change in Tokelau

In Tokelau in a Fono meetings women were´t allowed to be present at the meetings but then a change happen and they let women attend the Fono meetings, Fono meetings are council meetings for them to make choices for their island. How does it affect the island? It makes their island become a better place by them making choices for their island.  And it gives the ladies point of view too. And for men it means they can share the responsibilities. My perspective is that it's good that they let women attend the Fono because women can now know what is happening with their island instead of just men knowing things.

Tokelau

In class today we watched a video 'Our small world Tokelau' one lady that was from Tokelau migrated from New Zealand back home because she found it hard to settle in New Zealand as she was trying her best to get a better education but as she left she didn't have any second thoughts on staying she went on the boat and came straight home. A challenge that their facing is the population it's decreasing because they all migrating to other islands to get a better education.
